The Armenian parliament commission approved the agreement on TRIPP.
The Permanent Commission of the National Assembly on Foreign Relations gave a positive conclusion on the draft ratification of the framework agreement on strategic cooperation between Armenia and the USA on the project "Trump's Route for International Peace and Prosperity".
As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in mid-September, the Constitutional Court of Armenia recognized the TRIPP agreement as compliant with the Constitution. After the full text of the decision is published, the document will be sent to parliament for ratification.
"Trump's Route", TRIPP - is a transport corridor project between Azerbaijan and its exclave, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, through the territory of Armenia. The project was created with the mediation and exclusive rights of the USA for 99 years. It became a key element of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, signed in August 2025 in Washington, according to the "Caucasian Knot" reference "Trump's Route (TRIPP): a transport corridor through Armenia".
During the discussion held on Wednesday in the commission, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan named four expected economic outcomes from the implementation of the TRIPP project, as reported today by the publication "News-Armenia".
"These are the unblocking of transport communications, previously non-existent unprecedented economic opportunities, strengthening Armenia's ties with the East and West, and expanding opportunities for import and export," said Mirzoyan.
According to him, besides the economic benefits, the main expected outcome of the project's implementation is the establishment of peace. "We are talking about a new, previously non-existent unprecedented level of economic cooperation between Armenia and the USA. The United States will undoubtedly play a significant role in this process and pursue its own economic interests," said the Foreign Minister.
The minister also reported that after the ratification of the agreement, two more steps need to be taken to formalize the project - to sign a shareholder agreement and approve the company's charter. "Thus, we will complete the preparation of the main documents necessary for launching the TRIPP project. The purpose of this agreement is to regulate all related issues," he emphasized.
Mirzoyan noted that all infrastructure of the project on the territory of Armenia will be under the exclusive jurisdiction of the republic, respecting the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. Armenia, in accordance with national legislation and international agreements, will continue to bear responsibility for ensuring security and law enforcement activities, border, customs, and migration control, as well as state administration and oversight.
It is specified that following the voting of the commission members, the document was supported by four deputies, while one voted against. Thus, the project passed the stage of consideration in the parliamentary commission and is expected to be included in the agenda of the upcoming plenary session of the National Assembly, reports the publication Factor.am.
The discussion of the agreement was accompanied by a number of questions and concerns expressed by opposition deputies. They pointed out the possible political consequences of the project and the ongoing uncertainty in the process of normalizing relations with Azerbaijan.
One of the main concerns of the opposition representatives is that Armenia may provide the stipulated transport communication for Azerbaijan, but in return may not receive guarantees for signing a peace agreement.
In particular, a deputy from the "Armenia" faction, Arthur Khachatryan, asked whether there is a binding document for Azerbaijan that would ensure Armenia's internal communication on terms equivalent to the obligations stipulated in TRIPP. He also asked what would happen if Azerbaijan restricts the passage of Armenian cargo in the future.
Ararat Mirzoyan replied that he cannot imagine a situation where, within the framework of TRIPP, the railway communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan would function, while Armenia would not be able to ensure its internal communication through the territory of Nakhchivan, writes Armenpress.
It is recalled that on May 26, 2026, in Yerevan, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed a Charter on Strategic Partnership, expanding US-Armenian cooperation and supporting the TRIPP project. The visit to Yerevan was accompanied by the initialing of the framework agreement on the transport corridor and a memorandum of cooperation in the field of critical minerals.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that according to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, there should be no enclaves and exclaves on either side of the border, and Armenia and Azerbaijan should carry out territorial exchanges of the corresponding exact sizes.
