Residents of 22 villages in Dagestan were left without light after the accident.

As a result of the accident in the power grid, more than 24 thousand residents of the Levashinsky district were left without electricity.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", residents of Dagestan regularly complain about prolonged power outages. For instance, in August 2025, residents of the Reducer settlement in Makhachkala held an impromptu protest due to the lack of electricity in their homes. The city administration later reported that the power supply to most homes had been restored. Residents of other districts of the city also complained about similar problems.

The emergency power outage at the "Levashinskaya" substation occurred on the evening of September 15, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Dagestan reported on its website.

"22 settlements with a population of 24,168 people were affected by the power outage," the message states.

The cause of the outage is "being established," the agency explained. "A team of 4 people and 1 piece of equipment from the district power grid has been sent to the site for emergency recovery work," the publication notes.

As of 10:06 Moscow time on September 16, the Ministry of Emergency Situations had not published information about the resolution of the accident. The Ministry of Energy of Dagestan and "Dagenergo" (a branch of PJSC "Rosseti North Caucasus") did not report the accident or its resolution in their Telegram channels.

However, the protest potential of Dagestan residents dissatisfied with utility problems and high tariffs is in a passive state and may only manifest in low voter turnout in the upcoming elections, analysts surveyed by "Caucasian Knot" believe.

This week, from September 18-20, elections for deputies of the State Duma and the republican parliament will take place in Dagestan. Earlier, some residents of the republic stated that they do not intend to participate in the voting due to distrust of the candidates and the election results.
