Social media users doubted the sincerity of Darsalia's apologies.

Public apologies from blogger Roman Darsalia for statements that law enforcement considered an insult to the Abkhaz people may have been made under pressure and therefore appear insincere, some social media users stated. Other commentators deemed the apologies insufficient and demanded that Darsalia be held accountable.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 4, the State Security Service (SSS) of Abkhazia detained blogger Roman Darsalia after considering his statements during a live broadcast with a Ukrainian blogger as an insult to the Abkhaz people. After the detention, Darsalia issued public apologies for his words.

Commentators found Darsalia's apologies insufficient

On the "Caucasian Knot" Facebook page, two posts were made regarding Roman Darsalia's public apologies. As of 12:55 MSK on September 7, these posts collectively garnered 411 comments. Some users doubted the sincerity of Darsalia's apologies and suggested that he made them under pressure. "He spoke the truth, but then got scared. That's the whole truth," believes Tzira Papava.

"When was Darsalia sincere? I think for the first time," stated Beso Narmania.

"He spoke the truth <…>, and then was forced to apologize," suggested Sandro Devdariani.

Other commentators found the apologies insufficient and demanded punishment for Darsalia. "Can betrayal of the Motherland be atoned for with apologies?" asked Timur Arshba.

"Forgiveness is not necessary, he should be strictly punished. He will continue anyway, this forgiveness means nothing," stated Lira Grigoria.

"This [vividly expressive term] should have been expelled from Abkhazia. People like him sell us all," wrote Yanik Abkhaz.

As of 12:55 MSK on September 7, there are no comments on the SSS of Abkhazia's website regarding users' assumptions that Darsalia apologized under pressure.

In Abkhazia, locals periodically issue public apologies after resonant statements and actions, and in some cases, these were preceded by detention, preventive conversations, or other circumstances that called into question the voluntariness of such apologies.

For instance, on October 31, 2025, a resident of Abkhazia, Makvala Bzhalava apologized for her son's actions after a "preventive conversation" at the SSS, which initiated a case regarding the burning of an Abkhaz passport by a teenager. Social media users then claimed that the woman was forced to record the apology.

On July 9, 2025, the head of the Abkhaz Film Fund, Alexander Basaria, requested forgiveness for criticism directed at Russian tourists. His apologies followed the resonance around his words about tourists who buy cheap packages and spend little during their stay in Abkhazia.

On November 17, 2023, it became known about a resident of Abkhazia who had to issue public apologies after photos and videos of his car with a Georgian flag appeared on social media. The man stated that the flag was displayed by a passenger from the window and that the incident was a domestic situation.

On March 30, 2021, 19-year-old Alena Tania publicly apologized after the publication of a video with the phrase "Abkhazia is Georgia." The apologies were recorded in a police office, where the girl's parents were also invited.
