The number of citizens evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan has exceeded 600.

More than 600 people crossed the border between Iran and Azerbaijan through the Astara checkpoint, including 125 Russian citizens, as well as Serbian diplomats.

These include 152 citizens of Azerbaijan, 127 citizens of China, 114 citizens of Russia, 65 citizens of Pakistan, 42 citizens of Tajikistan, 18 citizens of Saudi Arabia, 6 citizens of the United Arab Emirates, 4 citizens of Jordan, 3 citizens of Qatar, 3 citizens of Bangladesh, 2 citizens of the Philippines, 2 citizens of Nepal, 2 citizens of Kazakhstan, 2 citizens of France, as well as one citizen each of Turkey, Italy, Poland, Tunisia, Lebanon, India, and Brazil.

Closer to midnight, according to the publication, another 50 people were evacuated from Iran through the Astara border crossing point. Seven of them are citizens of Azerbaijan, 10 citizens of Tajikistan, 11 citizens of Russia, 17 citizens of China, and five citizens of Serbia. Five of the evacuees are minors.

Five diplomats from the Serbian Embassy, ​​including Ambassador Damir Kovačević, were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan. He thanked the Azerbaijani authorities and stated that they were greeted "very warmly," Report.az writes.

Earlier, amid worsening relations between Iran and the United States, Baku announced its refusal to allow its territory to be used for a strike on the neighboring country, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed his readiness to help reduce tensions. Analysts considered Azerbaijan's position on the conflict in Iran to be pragmatic.
