Defence of Dagestani Dalgatov's family reports defendants' role in his death

The eleven Makhachkala policemen, whose case has been sent to court, are accused of torturing Kurban Dalgatov and attempts to hide his violent death, the advocate for Kurban's family has stated. Dalgatov's relatives treat the defendants' boss as also responsible for his death.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 4, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported that the investigation into the case of 11 employees of the Sovietsky Police Division of Makhachkala, accused within the case of Dalgatov's death, had been completed. Earlier, in April, the above advocate and Kurban's mother stated that none of the figurants had pleaded guilty; they are all trying to evade responsibility.

"The cases of Islam Atavov and Marat have been separated into separate proceedings; the trial thereof is already underway," Madina Alieva, an advocate, has informed.

According to her story, Atavov played a "significant role" in torturing Dalgatov.

Of the remaining 11 policemen, "some took part in the torture; others tried to hide Dalgatov's violent death," Ms Alieva has explained.

The advocate and Alina Malikova, an ex-wife of one of the defendants, Magomed Malikov, reported in April that he had an alibi, but investigators refused to check it.

Meanwhile, Madina Alieva has noted referring to Islam Dalgatov (Kurban's father) that none of the defendants had tried to ask him for forgiveness.

"They were ready to forgive if someone came and told everything as it really happened, without trying to keep silent or shield them off. But there was not a single such attempt," the advocate has stated.
