Zurabishvili announces demarcation of Georgian-Azerbaijani border

The issue of the common border section will be resolved by the end of the year, the Georgian President, Salome Zurabishvili, has stated during her visit to Azerbaijan, citing the friendly relations of the two countries.

Ms Zurabishvili's visit to Azerbaijan began on February 27. She met President Ilham Aliev, his wife, Vice-President of Azerbaijan, Mekhriban Alieva, and their daughter, Vice-President of the Geidar Aliev Foundation, Leyla Alieva.

During the meeting with Ilham Aliev, the Georgian President stated the need to delimit the mutual border. "Based on the Azerbaijani-Georgian friendship, we decided to instruct the commission on border delimitation to resume its work and bring it to the end," she said, expressing confidence that the issue would be resolved before the end of the year, the "News-Georgia" reported on February 27.

Both Georgia and Azerbaijan are countries with partially occupied territories, Ms Zurabishvili has stated. "The territorial integrity of our countries is still not restored. The occupation issue is still our painful wound. On the one hand, it hinders our development; and on the other hand, despite this, despite these tragedies, we've managed to strengthen our statehoods and economies," Salome Zurabishvili's words were quoted by the website of the President of Azerbaijan on February 27.
