Beaten journalist checked up in Georgia

The state of Alan Parastayev, director of the Center for Humanitarian Initiatives and Studies beaten by officers of the South Osetian Interior Ministry, has improved. As a result of the beating, which took place on January 30, 2004 during an incident with the detention of humanitarian goods sent for Georgian villages in South Osetia, Parastayev suffered a severe brain concussion and skull base fracture. Parastayev's parents has told the Caucasian Knot correspondent that as of today, their sun has recovered his speech, his state has improved in general, but he has not fully recovered his memory. He cannot recall details of the happening so far.

Now Alan Parastayev is in the neurological department of the 1st Tbilisi clinical hospital (Georgia), where he was taken from the reanimation department of the South Osetian Republican Hospital for tomographic examination of the brain.

As reported by the South Osetian Interior Ministry's press service, the investigation of the incident is being conducted by the ministry's security department. An official examination in connection with the infliction of bodily injuries on Alan Parastayev is underway now, the Caucasian Knot correspondent was told.
