Novocherkassk residents supported the demand for discounts on the "Don" highway toll.

The introduction of a toll on the "Don" highway near Persiyanovka will lead to constant traffic jams in Novocherkassk, local residents believe. They support the demand of the residents of Shakhty for a reduction in tolls for local residents.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", after the introduction of tolls for the reconstructed section of the M-4 "Don" highway for residents of Shakhty working in Rostov-on-Don, trips will be extremely expensive, or alternative routes will have to be used, local residents say, who have announced a petition against the introduction of tolls.

Residents of Novocherkassk joined the petition against the introduction of tolls on the M-4 "Don" highway section near Persiyanovka. The toll booth is planned to open at the 1,021st kilometer after the reconstruction of the highway is completed — in 2027, Donday reports.

The petition of the residents of Shakhty was supported by residents of Novoshakhtinsk, Krasnosulinsky, and Oktyabrsky districts, and now Novocherkassk residents have joined it, as the introduction of tolls on the section will redirect traffic onto roads through Novocherkassk.

"The flow of cars will go through Baklanovsky Avenue. We have had constant traffic jams for the last four years. When the vacation season starts, everyone also goes through our city. Any accident on the M-4 "Don" — again, everyone goes through us. Imagine what will happen when the toll is introduced at the 1,021st kilometer?" — a resident of Novocherkassk told the "KVU" portal.

The townspeople are preparing their own petition. According to them, the road through Novocherkassk already takes about an hour during rush hour due to traffic jams. With the onset of cold weather, the situation worsens: on Baklanovsky Avenue, the road goes uphill, and during snowfall or icy conditions, vehicles often cannot overcome the slippery section. Traffic stops, jams form, and there are no detours — the road is two-lane. After the launch of the toll section, the load on the city roads will increase even more.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in April 2017, it became known that the company "Avtodor" plans to make the toll on the section of the M-4 "Don" highway in the south of Rostov region from the 1,091st to the 1,119th kilometer, that is, from Bataisk to the border with Krasnodar Krai, by the end of the year. The head of "Avtodor" promised the residents of Rostov region, who demanded free passage on the M-4 "Don" highway, a discounted rate for trips on the toll section.
