Transport communication with the village of Gdym in the Akhtyn district has been interrupted after a rockfall on the highway.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in April 2025, transport communication with the high-altitude village of Gdym in the Akhtyn district was also interrupted after landslides and avalanches.

In the Akhtyn district, on the highway leading from the Akhty – Kurukal – Khnov road to the village of Gdym, a rockfall occurred, reports "Dagestanavtodor" today at 13:39 Moscow time on its Telegram channel.

One settlement has been left without transport communication

"Traffic is temporarily closed. One settlement has been left without transport communication - the village of Gdym. Two units of equipment - a bulldozer and an excavator - are being sent to the site for clearing," the publication states.

Residents of mountain villages regularly face problems due to poor roads

Recall that residents of high-altitude villages in Dagestan have repeatedly faced difficulties due to the lack of roads. For example, in July 2026, residents in the Charodinsky district had to carry a seriously ill person almost a kilometer to the doctors by hand.

On January 16, 2022, residents of the village of Khushet had to carry a pregnant woman on stretchers through the mountains to a neighboring settlement, as she required hospitalization. After the woman was discharged from the hospital, her fellow villagers took her home through the mountains in a construction cart. Social media users who watched a video about this expressed outrage at the indifference of officials to the problem of the lack of air ambulance and road access to Khushet.

Residents of the village of Khutrah in the Tsuntin district faced a similar problem. In February 2023, an ambulance could not reach a sick resident of the village, and villagers had to carry the woman on stretchers along a snow-covered road.

Cases where residents of high-altitude villages are forced to carry someone in need of medical assistance on stretchers due to poor roads occur almost annually, political scientist Albert Esedov told "Caucasian Knot" in 2023. "Unfortunately, only the publicity of such facts somehow solves the problem," he noted.
