Activists in New York protested against the extradition of Mansur Movlaev.

A picket against the extradition to Russia of Chechen native Mansur Movlaev and activist Yulia Emelyanova took place at the Consulate of Kazakhstan in New York.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 26, a call was made at a rally in Tbilisi to prevent the extradition of Movlaev and Emelyanova from Kazakhstan to Russia. Pickets were held in front of the Kazakhstan Embassy in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, and in the capital of Japan, Tokyo, calling for the authorities not to hand over Chechen native Mansur Movlaev and activist Yulia Emelyanova to the Russian authorities.

On September 27, a mass picket was held at the Consulate of Kazakhstan in New York. People came out with posters in support of Yulia Emelyanova and Mansur Movlaev, urging the authorities of Kazakhstan not to extradite the opposition activists to Russia, reports RusNews.

According to the video, at least four activists participated in the action. They held posters in English addressing the authorities of Kazakhstan, urging them not to serve the Kremlin and not to extradite Mansur Movlaev and Yulia Emelyanova.

Recall that Mansur Movlaev was detained by security forces in Chechnya in 2022 and was held in an illegal prison. He escaped from there in January 2023 and made it to Kyrgyzstan. In August 2023, security forces in Kyrgyzstan detained Movlaev, who was wanted in Russia for financing extremism. A court in Bishkek sentenced Movlaev to six months in a penal colony and subsequent deportation from the country. On November 20, 2023, Movlaev was released and left Kyrgyzstan on his own to avoid being sent back home.

In May 2025, Movlaev was detained in Kazakhstan and placed under extradition arrest. The Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan ruled to extradite him to Russian security forces. In February, the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan suspended the execution of the decision to extradite Movlaev until his asylum petition is finally considered. On September 10, it became known that the cassation court in Kazakhstan found no violations in the refusal to grant asylum to Chechen native Mansur Movlaev. Movlaev, who is being held in a Kazakhstani pre-trial detention center, attempted suicide.
