Three residents of Azerbaijan are accused of collaborating with foreign intelligence services.

The trial of Edik Israfilov, Amid Mamedov, and Nurlan Safarov has begun in Baku, who are accused of collaborating with foreign intelligence services for terrorist and subversive purposes.

The trial has started in the Baku Serious Crimes Court regarding Edik Israfilov, Amid Mamedov, and Nurlan Safarov.

They are charged under articles 12.1, 279.1 (participation in the activities of armed formations not provided for by the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan outside the Republic of Azerbaijan) and 302.1 (conducting illegal operational-search activities) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The indictment was announced at the hearing, writes Oxu.az on September 25.

Israfilov, Mamedov, and Safarov were detained in December last year; according to the State Security Service of Azerbaijan, they participated outside the country in organizing the activities of an illegal armed formation, were involved in surveillance of officials of a foreign state, were used for intelligence-diversionary, terrorist, and subversive purposes, and committed other criminal acts. It is also noted that all detainees were related to representatives of the so-called "criminal world". Amid Mamedov was detained on the territory of a foreign state and brought to Azerbaijan, writes Baku.ws.
