Kambolov is leading in the presidential elections after processing 99% of the protocols.

After processing 99% of the protocols from the precinct commissions, Marat Kambolov received 85.12% of the votes from the voters in the presidential elections of South Ossetia.

On June 23, Alan Gagloev resigned as president of South Ossetia after being appointed as an advisor to Vladimir Putin, and the temporary execution of the duties of the head of the republic passed to the Prime Minister Marat Kambolov. The Parliament of South Ossetia on July 1 scheduled voting for September 18. In July, Vladimir Putin publicly expressed support for Kambolov in the upcoming elections. Four candidates were registered for the presidency of South Ossetia – Marat Kambolov, Zurab Kokoev, Murat Valiev, and Kazbek Kodoev. According to preliminary data, Kambolov received 85.12% of the votes, Murat Valiev – 3.75%, Kazbek Kodoev – 2.40%, Zurab Kokoev – 1.35%. 5.00% of voters voted against all candidates, Gagieva clarified.

She reminded that for a candidate to win, they must receive more than half of the votes from the voters. "According to Article 49 of the constitutional law of the Republic 'On the elections of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia', a candidate who receives more than half of the votes from the voters who participated in the voting is considered elected," said the head of the CEC of South Ossetia.

It should be noted that during the election campaign, Marat Kambolov made a series of statements about solving social and infrastructure problems. On September 1, he announced that the price of social bread would not increase. On September 5, after meeting with residents of the villages of Orchosan and Tsinaqar, who raised issues of gas supply, water quality, roads, agricultural machinery, salary arrears, and transport communication, Kambolov instructed to determine the ways and deadlines for solving each of the issues.

On September 6, social media users, discussing Kambolov's report on the work of the public support headquarters, called on him not to forget his election promises and to ensure the resolution of the stated problems. On September 15, Kambolov presented his election program, which he named as the main goal of creating conditions for a decent life, work, raising children, and self-realization of residents without the need to leave the republic. On September 17, he promised to increase the salaries of employees of the state enterprise "Energoresurs" within a year, with an overall increase of up to 60 percent.
