The court extended the house arrest of Samvel Karapetyan

The anti-corruption court extended the house arrest of Samvel Karapetyan for another two months. Karapetyan himself stated that the court made this decision at the instruction of the authorities.

Samvel Karapetyan was arrested on June 18, 2025, on charges of public calls for seizing power after a public conflict with the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan. On December 30, 2025, the court transferred him to house arrest.

The session of the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia, which addressed the issue of the preventive measure for the leader of the "Strong Armenia" bloc, Samvel Karapetyan, lasted more than six hours. The prosecutor requested to extend Karapetyan's house arrest for three months, Yerevan Today reports.

Karapetyan's defense petitioned to replace house arrest with bail of 300 million drams and a travel ban. The court agreed with the prosecutor's argument that the conditions that led to the imposition of the preventive measure remain in force, but extended Samvel Karapetyan's house arrest for only two months, writes Armenia Today.

Samvel Karapetyan himself stated that the court's decision was due to "the instruction of the authorities." At the same time, in a conversation with journalists after leaving the court, he declared a "good, fighting spirit."

According to Karapetyan, the existing judicial and legal system is unfair and can only be corrected by a change of power. "Pashinyan must leave so that we can create a normal judicial and legal system," he announced.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in June, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan filed two lawsuits against the leader of "Strong Armenia" Samvel Karapetyan, demanding a public refutation and compensation for moral damages. Pashinyan considers the statement that he has a house in Canada, as well as the use of hallucinogenic mushrooms, to be defamatory. Karapetyan, in turn, filed a lawsuit against Pashinyan on September 9 due to his statements during the election campaign. He demands an apology from the Prime Minister and monetary compensation.
