The volume of hotel bookings in Kuban decreased by almost a quarter

In September, Krasnodar Krai lost 24% of hotel bookings compared to the same period in 2025. Meanwhile, the average across the country saw a decrease of only 9%.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in 2025, the number of tours to Krasnodar Krai decreased by 15%, primarily due to Anapa - the resort city, which, in the wake of the oil spill, received only 2 million tourists.

Krasnodar Krai lost 24% of hotel bookings in early September compared to the same period in 2025, the Russian Union of Travel Industry reported today on its website, which was noted by the publication "BFM Kuban".

On average across the country, according to the union, the volume of bookings since the beginning of September decreased by 9% compared to the same period in 2025.

"Almost half of the total volume traditionally comes from the top three leaders – Moscow (22.4%), St. Petersburg (14%), and Krasnodar Krai (11.6%), which have the most extensive hotel base in the country. The volumes in Moscow and St. Petersburg decreased slightly – by 1% and 2% respectively, while Krasnodar Krai lost 24%," the publication states.

At the same time, among the top ten cities where residents of Russia most frequently booked accommodation for the next three months in the last two weeks, are Moscow region (-2%), Tatarstan (-8%), Sverdlovsk and Nizhny Novgorod regions (both -9%), Novosibirsk region (+16%), Stavropol Krai (-5%) and Primorsky Krai (+17%), the Russian Union of Travel Industry indicated.

Only two regions show positive dynamics

"Thus, in the top 10, only two regions show positive dynamics. This reflects the overall situation in the country, as the overwhelming majority of destinations are currently booked lower or, at best, almost at last year's level, with growth mainly in Siberian and Far Eastern regions," the publication notes.

Most bookings are made by residents of Moscow and the Moscow region. "They account for more than 42% of the total volume. Next is St. Petersburg with a share of 7.3%, followed by Novosibirsk region (3.6%), Sverdlovsk region (3.1%), Khabarovsk Krai (2.8%), Krasnodar Krai (2.7%), Rostov (2.6%) and Nizhny Novgorod region (2.2%)," the union reported.

The decline in demand for Kuban hotels occurred against the backdrop of the consequences of oil spills

Recall that ahead of the summer season of 2026, the environmental situation in Krasnodar Krai worsened after a fire occurred on May 1 due to a drone attack at the marine terminal in Tuapse. Earlier, on April 24, after the breaching of boom barriers due to rising water levels in the Tuapse River, an oil spill occurred in the Black Sea.
