Azerbaijani activist Bayramov was sentenced to a suspended sentence.

The Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced activist Galib Bayramov to eight years in prison with a three-year probation period. Bayramov did not admit guilt, and the defense announced its intention to appeal the verdict.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", Galib Bayramov, along with other activists, was accused in a case against several local and foreign NGOs. Following the preliminary investigation, the activists were charged with articles on the legalization of income obtained through criminal means, abuse of office, and official forgery. During the investigation and trial, Bayramov was under police supervision. On August 19, the prosecutor proposed to sentence Bayramov to 9 years in prison conditionally.

Yesterday, September 9, the Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced the activist to 8 years in prison with a three-year probation period. At the same time, the measure of restraint was softened – changed from police supervision to a travel ban, which frees Bayramov from regular mandatory visits to the police at his place of residence.

In his final statement, Bayramov stated that he did not commit the crimes attributed to him. "Galib Bayramov indicated that he received funds for services legally and that the remuneration for the work performed was deposited into a bank account, from which taxes and other mandatory payments were made – to social security and mandatory health insurance funds. The accusation of abuse of office is also unfounded. Since the activities of the Center for Economic Research he headed were effectively terminated many years ago due to changes in legislation, and he did not perform any official functions," said a colleague of Bayramov, who wished to remain anonymous, to a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot".

Lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova reported that the defense disagrees with the verdict, and if Bayramov decides to appeal the verdict, an appeal will be filed.

An employee of the Baku Serious Crimes Court confirmed the information about the verdict in Bayramov's case.

Recall that earlier a court in Baku sentenced activist Nargiz Mukhtarova to 7.5 years in prison conditionally for the legalization of illegal income, also brought to criminal responsibility in the NGO case.
