The court in Astrakhan sentenced blogger Magomeddibirov to a term in the colony

A blogger from Dagestan, Magomeddibir Magomeddibirov, has been sentenced to two years in a settlement colony after a road conflict with handball coach Georgy Zaikin.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", Dagestani blogger Magomeddibir Magomeddibirov declared a hunger strike in June in the pre-trial detention center in Astrakhan, where he was placed in December 2025 due to the road conflict. Investigators ignored the fact that Magomeddibirov's opponent struck him first, although this is a key point in determining the instigator of the fight, noted a lawyer and human rights activist.

The case of Magomeddibirov was heard by the Kirov District Court of Astrakhan, and the sentence was announced today, reported the head of the Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) of Dagestan, Shamil Khadulaev.

According to Khadulaev, the court also ordered Magomeddibirov to pay the victim Zaikin 300,000 rubles as compensation for moral damage.

The head of the PMC emphasized that Zaikin struck Magomeddibirov first, and the video from the scene of the incident confirms the Dagestani blogger's position. Moreover, it was Magomeddibirov who went for a medical examination and filed a complaint with the police after the conflict.

Khadulaev characterized the blogger's sentence as "mockery of common sense." "Turning to the police for help turned out to be much more problematic and dangerous for the Dagestani, who has lived 26 out of 29 years in Astrakhan," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that Magomeddibirov's father in late June asked Vladimir Putin to facilitate a fair investigation into his case, but there was no response to this appeal.
