Daily protests were preceded by an action from animal rights activists, who demanded the release of Tamaz Elizbarashvili and spoke out against the extermination of stray dogs.

Today, as every evening, an action by supporters of Eurointegration took place at the Parliament of Georgia on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi on the 648th day of continuous protests. According to a video published by Mtavari, about two hundred people gathered near the parliament. They held flags of Georgia, Ukraine, the USA, and the EU.

The action was peaceful, with participants conversing in small groups, some holding placards.

The action at the parliament was preceded by the action "In Defense of Animals and Animal Rights Defenders" in front of the government administration building. It takes place weekly, demanding an end to the "mass abduction and extermination" of stray dogs by state authorities.

Today, alongside the traditional demand, participants of the rally called for an end to the repression against animal rights defenders and the release of Tamaz Elizbarashvili, writes Publika.

"The person who saves the most dogs in Georgia, using his own resources, is Tamaz Elizbarashvili, with whom we may have different positions on various issues, but no one doubts one thing: this person is a true animal lover and has saved thousands of dogs at his own expense. As reported by "Caucasian Knot", entrepreneur and animal rights defender Tamaz Elizbarashvili declared a hunger strike in a detention center in Tbilisi after his arrest, complaining of persecution by the authorities following a conflict with employees of a pro-government television channel. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia stated that a case against Elizbarashvili is being investigated for threats and illegal possession of weapons. On September 3, he was charged with making threats of murder or causing harm to health, and on September 4, the court arrested him.

Protesters in Georgia have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners since November 28, 2024. Security forces have conducted harsh dispersals of protests, using tear gas and water cannons, and detaining protesters.
