A resident of Kabardino-Balkaria was convicted in absentia for terrorism.

The Southern District Military Court sentenced a 42-year-old resident of Kabardino-Balkaria, who is wanted internationally, to 18 years in prison for participating in a terrorist organization.

According to the court, the man was a member of a terrorist organization, underwent special training in explosives, and also participated in combat operations as part of an illegal armed formation.

The criminal case was considered in absentia, as the convicted person is hiding from justice and is wanted internationally, the press service of the prosecutor's office of the Krasnodar region reported on its Telegram channel.

He was charged under three articles: participation in the activities of an organization recognized as terrorist under the law 1 , undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities 2 , and participation in an armed formation not provided for by federal law 3 .

The court imposed a sentence of 18 years in prison. The first four years the convicted person will serve in prison, and the remaining part of the sentence in a strict regime correctional colony, with a restriction of freedom for a period of 1 year and 6 months, the supervisory agency clarified.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that at the end of August, the FSB reported the detention in the Zolsky district of Kabardino-Balkaria of 11 members of a terrorist cell promoting radical ideology.
