Mamedli's wife complained about the incomplete examination of her husband in pre-trial detention.

The health condition of the founder of Toplum TV, Alekser Mamedli, remains serious after suffering a heart attack in pre-trial detention. He has not been provided with the results of medical examinations and has not undergone an ultrasound, despite complaints of heart pain, episodes of rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, and shortness of breath, Mamedli's wife reported.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the founder of Toplum TV, Alekser Mamedli, suffered a heart attack in pre-trial detention, and his overall condition has significantly worsened. On August 11, blood samples were taken for analysis, and an echocardiogram was performed. The defense and relatives insist on his urgent hospitalization in a specialized clinic.

Almost three weeks later, the arrested founder of Toplum TV, Alekser Mamedli, was provided with the results of general and biochemical blood tests, his wife Gunay Mamedli reported.

"Alekser reported that there are significant deviations from the norm in a number of indicators – some are elevated, while others are decreased," Gunay Mamedli told a correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

However, according to her, the results of the heart examination have still not been provided to Alekser Mamedli. "And he still hasn't had the ultrasound examination done. They can't seem to find a 'specialist' for the ultrasound there," noted Gunay Mamedli.

According to her, Alekser Mamedli continues to suffer from shortness of breath, insomnia, high blood pressure, episodes of rapid heartbeat, and heart pain.

"Despite the fact that more than a month has passed since the sharp deterioration of Alekser-bek's health condition (a respectful form of address to a man) and our repeated appeals to the relevant authorities regarding this matter, he still has not undergone a comprehensive medical examination. And there are no normal, properly documented results for what has been conducted," Gunay Mamedli continued.

She noted that government agencies, in response to appeals regarding the need to create conditions for a full examination and treatment of Alekser Mamedli, limit themselves to excuses that "everyone in pre-trial detention is under observation and that all necessary 'care' – from examination to treatment – is provided if needed."

Gunay Mamedli pointed out that before his arrest, Alekser Mamedli only had problems with his thyroid gland.

"After the arrest, the nodules in his thyroid gland increased and expanded in size. After the arrest, he developed heart arrhythmia, suffered heart attacks, 'acquired' diabetes, developed hypertension, and had problems with his kidneys, pancreas, and prostate – after being taken into custody. He is innocent. But if he is not released on acquittal grounds, then at least let them change the measure of restraint so that he can be treated in a civilian clinic," Gunay Mamedli said.

One of the Baku lawyers explained in a conversation with a correspondent of "Caucasian Knot" that there is currently no decision from the appellate court regarding Alekser Mamedli's case, and therefore there are no legal obstacles to changing his measure of restraint.

"Of course, formally the defense can file a petition to change the measure of restraint, but in the realities of Azerbaijan, this requires the consent of the political authorities. Alekser Mamedli is a well-known lawyer, media expert, and it is well known that he has not committed any crimes. Of course, it is unrealistic to expect an acquittal verdict, but the appellate court may at least replace the actual sentence with a conditional punishment based on the results of future proceedings," the lawyer said on condition of anonymity.

The defense has already filed an appeal against the verdict, but the date for preliminary court hearings has not been set, said lawyer Fakhraddin Mekhtiev.

Legislation allows for the transfer of prisoners for examination and treatment in specialized medical clinics, and the defense has already requested this, but without result, the lawyer told a correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

"Caucasian Knot" currently has no comments from the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan or the prosecution side.
