Pashinyan outlined the procedure for conducting the referendum on Armenia's accession to the EU.

The referendum on Armenia's accession to the EU will take place after the submission of the relevant application and the formation of a roadmap, said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. He also stated his intention to achieve visa-free travel with the European Union within three years and to refrain from active participation in the CSTO for the next five years.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on August 12, a deputy from the ruling party "Civil Contract", Sarkis Handanyan, stated that the referendum on the possible exit of Armenia from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) cannot be held in the coming months. On August 7, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the referendum on the choice between the EU and the EAEU meaningless and illegitimate until the necessary procedural steps are completed.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today expressed confidence during a session of the National Assembly (parliament) of Armenia that a referendum on joining the European Union (EU) will take place in the country. The timing of its holding depends on the completion of the preceding procedures, Aysor.am reported.

"I am confident that a nationwide referendum on joining the European Union will take place in Armenia," the publication quoted Pashinyan's words.

The Prime Minister noted that Armenia must first officially submit an application for EU membership. Pashinyan suggested that this process might begin soon. The referendum, according to his words, should take place after the application is submitted, a response is received, and a roadmap for the further process is formed.

The Armenian authorities also hope to achieve visa liberalization with the European Union by 2029, Pashinyan indicated. "As of today, Armenia is the only country with which the European Union is actively negotiating visa liberalization," he said.

Speaking today in parliament, Nikol Pashinyan also once again touched on the Karabakh issue. He called the Karabakh movement a trap for Armenia and stated that it was a project of "nullifying" the statehood and future of the country, reported "Arminfo".

In the next five years, Armenia does not intend to return to active participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Pashinyan's words were reported today by the agency "News-Armenia".

"I can confidently say - we will not activate our work in the CSTO," he stated.

Pashinyan also noted that he would be glad if the organization itself decided to exclude Armenia, as this would relieve Yerevan of the need to address the issue of exit.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Armenian authorities consistently declare their rapprochement with the European Union against the backdrop of ongoing economic ties with Russia and the EAEU. Thus, on August 12, a representative of the ruling party excluded the holding of a referendum on Armenia's exit from the EAEU in the coming months. On July 7, analysts surveyed by "Caucasian Knot" pointed to Armenia's dependence on the Russian market, despite the authorities' course towards Eurointegration.
