The court in Makhachkala has arrested those accused of the tourist's death.

The boat driver, whose passenger died during an excursion on the Sulak River, violated the speed limit and made dangerous maneuvers. The number of injured as a result of the accident has risen to nine.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the boat with tourists sank in the Sulak Canyon after colliding with a rock. One passenger, a 60-year-old tourist from Izhevsk, died, and eight other passengers required medical assistance. On August 13, it became known that the driver of the boat and the transportation organizer were detained.

The Soviet District Court of Makhachkala has sent the driver of the excursion vessel, which capsized on the Sulak River, as well as the excursion organizer for tourists, to pre-trial detention. The driver is accused of violating traffic safety rules 1 , and the excursion organizer is accused of providing unsafe services 2 .

According to the case materials, an entrepreneur from the village of Zubutli in the Kazbekovsky district organized paid excursions for tourists on the small vessel "Kasatka 710". He hired a person as the boat driver who had neither a boat driver's license nor skills in operating a vessel.

The driver, who was not authorized to operate the boat, violated the speed limit and made dangerous maneuvers during the excursion for passengers. As a result of his actions, the vessel collided with a rocky shore and capsized.

"As a result of the incident, one tourist died from drowning, and nine other passengers were injured," the press service of the Supreme Court of Dagestan reported today on its Telegram channel.

The court has detained both defendants for one month and 28 days. For the excursion organizer, this term expires on October 9, and for the driver - on October 10.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in May 2025, during a boat trip in the Sulak Canyon, a tourist from the Yaroslavl region died, and four others were injured. The organizer of the trip was arrested afterward.
