The head of the district in the Volgograd region resigned after a guilty verdict.

The head of the Ilovlinsky district, Ivan Gel, who received a suspended sentence for exceeding his official powers, which led to the death of a subordinate, has resigned, citing health reasons. The resignation was submitted shortly before the consideration of the appeal complaints. The victims' side and the prosecution are seeking to tighten the sentence.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the head of the Ilovlinsky district, Ivan Gel, is accused in a criminal case of exceeding his official powers resulting in serious consequences (Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the investigation, he sent unqualified administration employees to extinguish a fire, after which 52-year-old Alexander Pereyarin died from burns and three of his colleagues were injured. On August 7, the court decided to return the case to the prosecutor's office. In October 2025, the Volgograd Regional Court upheld the appeals of the prosecutor's office and the victims against the decision of the Ilovlinsky District Court to send the case of the same district head, Ivan Gel, to the prosecutor's office. The case of exceeding powers due to the death of Gel's subordinate in a steppe fire was returned to the first instance court. In February, a witness confirmed that Gel forced subordinates to participate in extinguishing the fire and interfered with the work of emergency services. The prosecutor requested six years of imprisonment. The deceased's side agrees with the accusation, while the lawyer and the representative of the victims declared the official's innocence.
