The treatment of the arrested Vugar Mamedov in Azerbaijan has been interrupted.

The editor-in-chief of the Hürriyet newspaper, Vugar Mamedov, has been returned from the prison hospital to the pre-trial detention center, despite doctors' conclusions about the need for urgent heart surgery. The journalist's relatives believe that his life is in danger.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the preliminary investigation into the case of the editor-in-chief of the Hurriyyet newspaper, the Hurriyyet.az website, and the Hurriyyet TV project, Vugar Mamedov, was completed in April. Mamedov's colleagues claimed that the charges were fabricated and urged the Attorney General to take personal control of the case. On May 4, Mamedov explained to the court in Baku that he was accused of extortion from companies that had been advertisers of the publication several years ago. Legal entities illegally recognized as victims, the lawyer indicated, but the court refused to close the criminal case.

The treatment of the arrested editor-in-chief of the Hürriyet newspaper, Vugar Mamedov, has been interrupted, and he has been returned to the Baku pre-trial detention center, according to a statement from the publication's editorial office. Mamedov was hospitalized in the Medical Institution of the Penitentiary Service on July 23. "The doctors of the Medical Institution of the Penitentiary Service who examined Vugar Mamedov concluded that he needed to undergo angiography and urgent heart surgery. However, on August 8, he was suddenly returned to Baku pre-trial detention center No. 1. The medical staff indicated that this was not their decision, but an order from 'above'," the press release noted.

According to the editor's brother, Jasur Mamedov, Vugar suffers from ischemic heart disease. Medical certificates regarding other diseases of Vugar Mamedov were also presented to the Baku Serious Crimes Court, his brother informed the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot".

He noted that the family had appealed to the country's leadership and the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan for assistance in creating conditions for Vugar Mamedov's examination and treatment in a private clinic at the expense of his relatives. However, the authorities not only failed to create conditions for treatment in a civilian clinic but also interrupted the provision of medical assistance in the prison hospital.
