New pollution threatens the Bugaz Spit

Satellite images show a smoke plume from the "Taman" port extending over 200 kilometers. A large spot is recorded in the coastal area, stretching from the docks to the middle of the Bugaz Spit.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", as a result of debris falling and a fire at one of the enterprises in the village of Volna in the Temryuk district, six people were injured, the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar region reported this evening.

After the fire at the PPK "Taman", a significant amount of oil products likely entered the sea, experts from the "Transparent World" project write. They analyzed satellite images from July 30, July 31, and August 1. A powerful smoke plume extending over 200 kilometers is clearly visible on them. At the same time, a large spot is recorded in the coastal area, stretching from the docks to the middle of the Bugaz Spit. Its estimated area is about 70 sq. km, according to the project's Telegram channel.

In addition, this pollution is partially visible in the radar image from Sentinel-1D on August 1. Another large slick, covering about 100 sq. km, is identified opposite the Bugaz Spit. According to satellite data, the consequences of the incident have extended far beyond the coastal area and affected the marine waters.

The Krasnodar region is regularly subjected to drone attacks. On July 22, it was reported that one person died and ten were injured as a result of a nighttime drone attack: in Armavir, an employee of an enterprise died after debris from a drone fell, while others were injured in a fire at a warehouse complex in Krasnodar. By the evening of the same day, it became known that a girl died in the hospital from injuries sustained during the attack on the Wildberries warehouse. The next day, it was reported that 21 houses were damaged.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that at least three people were detained by police for filming and publishing a video of the burning Wildberries warehouse. All detainees were forced to apologize on camera.

In the Krasnodar region, a ban on disseminating information about drone attacks and their consequences, filming the work of air defense, military facilities, and critical infrastructure has been in effect since September 2025. In December 2025, the authorities of Kuban introduced fines for filming air attacks and air defense operations. A corresponding bill from the regional legislative assembly has been published on "Caucasian Knot".
