The lawyer reported pressure on the imprisoned Azerbaijani blogger.

Human rights lawyer Nazim Musaev stated about the violation of attorney-client privilege and pressure from the staff of the correctional institution in Azerbaijan after meeting with his client Elmira Sadigov, a relative of opposition blogger Tural Sadigly.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", earlier the brother of the convicted Elmira Sadigov, who was sentenced for illegal arms trafficking, stated about the latest tightening of his detention conditions and linked it to the criticism of the Azerbaijani authorities by his nephew, opposition blogger Tural Sadigly.

In Azerbaijan, lawyer Nazim Musaev faced pressure in correctional institution No. 16 after meeting with his client Elmira Sadigov, a relative of opposition blogger Tural Sadigly.

This, according to the lawyer, happened on July 28. "I was held in the yard of the colony for an hour without any reason before meeting my client. Finally, after an hour, I was given a pass. Although the inspection of clothing and belongings entering the regime institution is provided for by regulations, I was searched with particular thoroughness. Then I was taken to a dirty, unventilated, foul-smelling room, unsuitable for communication, which was called the lawyer's room. There I had my meeting with my client Elmira Sadigov," the lawyer told a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot."

According to him, the visit to Elmira Sadigov was related to information received from his relatives about a new decision to tighten his punishment regime. "Sadigov spoke about the lawlessness he faced in IU-16, the unjustified placement in solitary confinement. I recorded what he said on paper to verify this information later. When I was leaving, two security officers, who had been standing behind the door the whole time, snatched my bag from me, seized documents from it, and began to read them. They ignored my words that they were violating attorney-client privilege. I was not allowed to leave the administrative building. I went to the head of the colony, Colonel Ilham Bakhshaliyev. But by that time, one of the security officers had already handed my notes to him. The colonel also read them, and then tore them to shreds and threw them in the trash can, after which I was released," the lawyer recounted.

He made the incident public through social networks. "I publicly appealed to the Minister of Justice and the head of the penitentiary service to take measures against the management and staff of the colony who grossly violated the law and effectively held the lawyer hostage, seized my documents, and trampled on my professional rights," noted Nazim Musaev.

Blogger Tural Sadigly, in a broadcast on his YouTube channel, called the incident arbitrariness against his uncle. According to him, from the very beginning of Elmira Sadigov's arrival at the colony, he has been subjected to pressure, forced to sweep the yard, perform other tasks to create grounds for tightening his punishment. In particular, one of the measures of pressure was the decision to transfer the convicted person to a closed-type prison until the end of his sentence. Tural Sadigly regarded this as revenge for criticizing the Azerbaijani authorities.
