Tevanyan's arrest has been extended against the backdrop of statements about his health problems.

The court in Yerevan has kept the leader of the "Mother Armenia" party, Andranik Tevanyan, under arrest, accused of treason. Tevanyan's associates stated that his condition has sharply deteriorated in the pre-trial detention center.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on May 22, the National Security Service conducted searches in the office of the "Mother Armenia" party and in the apartment of its leader Andranik Tevanyan, who was the second candidate on the list of the "Prosperous Armenia" party during the parliamentary elections. Tevanyan is accused of treason and espionage. The court has placed him under arrest for two months, allowing him to participate in the electoral processes through representatives. As a result of the elections, the "Prosperous Armenia" party failed to overcome the four percent barrier and enter the parliament.

On July 22, the court granted the prosecution's request, extending Andranik Tevanyan's arrest for another two months, reported the politician's lawyer Sergey Marabyan. According to the defender, the court's decision is not based on the circumstances of the criminal proceedings "in the literal sense of the word".

"The only thing that was recorded was the right to medical assistance: the investigator and all relevant authorities were obliged to provide it," the news agency "News-Armenia" quotes Marabyan.

One day before the court's decision, on July 21, the "Mother Armenia" party issued a statement about the sharp deterioration of Tevanyan's health, who is being held in the correctional facility "Yerevan-Kentron".

According to his associates, during the morning medical examination on July 20, the politician's blood pressure dropped sharply. The party's statement claims that "Tevanyan was on the brink of life and death," but later his condition stabilized. The pre-trial detention center staff decided not to call an ambulance for him, although they considered such a possibility.

"Tevanyan never had problems with blood pressure and, in general, any serious health issues before his arrest," the party's message is quoted by News.am.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that on July 10, a candidate for deputy from the "Prosperous Armenia" party and a member of the board of the "Mother Armenia" party, Aregnaz Manukyan, was arrested for two months. A month earlier, on June 12, the Armenian Investigative Committee conducted a search in Manukyan's apartment and interrogated her in the Tevanyan case. Aregnaz Manukyan's defense appealed her arrest on July 20 .
