Georgy Chigladze was released on bail after a conflict with tourists in Telavi.

The court in Telavi released Georgy Chigladze on bail, who was detained after a conflict with Russian-speaking tourists during his brother's wedding. In court, Chigladze stated that he regrets what happened.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the beating of a Russian-speaking tourist by Georgian resident Georgy Chigladze caused a stir on social media. Georgian police stated that Chigladze attacked the tourist due to insults directed at the wedding participants. The friend of the victim claims that the conflict arose because of the Russian language. A march took place in Tbilisi, where participants expressed support for Chigladze.

Judge Tamar Kapanadze of the Telavi District Court today released Georgy Chigladze on bail of 5,000 lari (1,895 USD).

Chigladze was released from the courtroom: the prosecution requested to keep the detainee in custody until the bail amount was paid, but the judge granted the request only partially. Chigladze's lawyers reported that the administration of the hotel "Agarani Estate,” where the incident occurred, volunteered to pay the bail amount for him, Tbilisi_life reports.

Prosecutor Beka Natelauri stated at the court session that Chigladze first struck the hotel guest in the shoulder and then in the face, resulting in a broken nasal bone and a concussion. Georgy Chigladze himself stated after the session that he regrets what happened. Under the article on intentional infliction of minor bodily harm (part 1 of article 120 of the Criminal Code of Georgia), he faces up to three years in prison.

Chigladze's defense insists that the conflict did not arise because of the Russian language, as the victim claims, but due to the provocative behavior of the tourists, who insulted the wedding guests and poured liquids on the equipment, notes TV Pirveli.

The victim of the incident is 30-year-old Alena Nestyuk, a citizen of Russia and Turkey, according to "News Georgia."

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that on July 11 in Tbilisi, participants of a memorial event for fighters killed in combat actions in Ukraine held a march near the parliament building. A conflict occurred between the march participants and a group of tourists that were reported to be from Russia.

The incident caused a stir on social media. Commentators debated its causes. Some users believed that the tourists only responded to the aggression of the demonstrators, while others stated that it was their behavior that caused the incident.
