The Krasnodar resident was sentenced to a large fine for a comment in a chat.

The military court in Rostov-on-Don found a resident of Krasnodar guilty of publicly justifying terrorism and sentenced him to a monetary fine with the confiscation of his mobile phone.

"Caucasian Knot" reported that courts in southern Russia regularly sentence local residents to real terms in prison for publications on social media under the article on justifying terrorism via the internet. It is impossible to establish the actual number of such sentences, as not all cases of justifying terrorism make it into the public court registries.

The reason for the prosecution of the Krasnodar resident was a publication in an open chat of a messenger. The article that was charged against the man (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia) provides for a sentence of five to seven years in prison. The minimum punishment under it is a fine ranging from three hundred thousand to one million rubles.

According to the prosecution's version, the resident of Krasnodar published a positive assessment of the activities of a Ukrainian paramilitary formation, recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation, for an “unlimited circle of users” in May 2025. The court took mitigating circumstances into account and sentenced him to a fine of 450 thousand rubles.

In addition, the convicted person is deprived of the right to engage in the administration of websites and pages of electronic or information and telecommunications networks for two years. “The mobile phone used in the commission of the crime has been confiscated and transferred to state ownership,” the Krasnodar region prosecutor's office reported on its Telegram channel on July 20.

The agency did not disclose the name, age, and occupation of the convicted person, nor did it clarify whether he admitted his guilt. In the registry on the website of the Southern District Military Court, the data on the convicted persons under the article on justifying terrorism is hidden.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that at the end of June, a case against a resident of Novorossiysk, accused of justifying terrorism due to comments in a messenger, was submitted to the court for consideration. In July, it became known that security forces detained a resident of Krasnodar who wrote comments in Telegram chats calling for strikes on Moscow.
