The Supreme Court of Chechnya upheld the sentence against Zarema Musaeva.

Zarema Musaeva will continue to serve her sentence in a penal colony, according to the decision of the Supreme Court of Chechnya, which rejected the appeal against the sentence.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the court in Chechnya sentenced Musaeva to three years and ten months in prison, finding her guilty of disrupting the work of the settlement colony. According to the investigation, in October 2024, during her transport from the hospital, Musaeva allegedly hit a FSIN officer and tore off his epaulet while she was in the car with him. She categorically denied her guilt, calling it a premeditated fabrication and revenge. This is already the second sentence. Earlier, in July 2023, Musaeva was convicted in a criminal case of fraud and "use of violence against a police officer." The Akhmat district court sentenced her to five and a half years in a colony, and the Supreme Court of Chechnya reduced the sentence to five years in a settlement colony. In March 2024, the Cassation Court in Pyatigorsk reduced Zarema Musaeva's sentence by three months – to four years and nine months, satisfying the prosecutor's request.

Today, the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic issued a decision on the appeal filed by Zarema Musaeva's lawyer Alexander Savin against the sentence.

"Despite the defense's arguments about the egregious violations of Zarema's right to defense, the violations that occurred during the questioning of witnesses, the obvious contradictions in the evidence and testimonies, the Supreme Court left the sentence unchanged," Alexander Savin's words are quoted in the Telegram channel of the Torture Prevention Team.

Savin noted that he would appeal the decisions of the Shali and Supreme Courts of Chechnya, as well as "seek Zarema Musaeva's freedom by other means."

As of 19:00 Moscow time, 251,435 rubles have been raised, according to data posted on the "Zaodno" platform. A total of 83.81% of the required amount has been collected, calculated "Caucasian Knot".

In March 2025, human rights activists raised the same amount for a year's supply of medicines, rehabilitation aids, and consumables needed by Musaeva. Two-thirds of the required amount were raised in two weeks. "Thank you for your support, you are saving me," Zarema Musaeva wrote after receiving the medicines.

Recall that on June 17, Aliya Yangulbaeva published an open letter on the social network Instagram addressed to Aishat Kadyrova, the eldest daughter of the head of Chechnya. In her appeal, Yangulbaeva asked Kadyrova to assist in freeing her mother, Zarema Musaeva. There has been no response to this appeal from Aishat Kadyrova or Ramzan Kadyrov. Analysts interviewed by "Caucasian Knot" doubted that Aishat Kadyrova could influence her father Ramzan Kadyrov's position regarding the release of Yangulbaeva's mother – Zarema Musaeva.

In early April, human rights activists sent a complaint about Chechen political prisoner Zarema Musaeva to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. In it, the woman indicated that she was being punished for the actions of her sons, who criticize the Chechen leadership, and that the court hearings in her case are being conducted with violations.

Zarema Musaeva is the wife of former federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev. Chechen security forces took her away on January 20, 2022, from an apartment in Nizhny Novgorod. After that, Ramzan Kadyrov accused the Yangulbaev family of organizing a terrorist network and stated that they would face a place "in prison or underground." In July 2023, Musaeva was convicted in a criminal case of fraud and "use of violence against a police officer."
