The court has placed Vardan Ghukasyan under house arrest.

The mayor of Gyumri, Vardan Ghukasyan, accused of corruption, hooliganism, and calls for changing the constitutional order, has been placed under house arrest, with bail set and a travel ban imposed.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", in October 2025, a court in Yerevan arrested the mayor of Gyumri Vardan Ghukasyan for two months in a bribery case. The opposition politician rejected the charges, and his lawyer called the case fabricated. After his arrest, he was also accused of public calls to renounce Armenia's sovereignty. Ghukasyan's powers have been suspended since the day of his arrest. On April 21, the court refused to release Ghukasyan from pre-trial detention.

The Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia changed the preventive measure for the mayor of Gyumri, Vardan Ghukasyan, to house arrest for a period of three months, reported "News-Armenia" on July 17.

As an additional preventive measure, the court also set bail in the amount of 15 million drams (2,700 dollars) and imposed a travel ban.

It should be noted that lawyer Zarui Postandzhyan, defending the mayor of Gyumri Vardan Ghukasyan and his son Spartak, stated that the prosecution of her clients has a political nature.
