Mansur Movlaev's extradition arrest in Kazakhstan has been extended.

The court in Kazakhstan extended the extradition arrest of Mansur Movlaev, a native of Chechnya, for five months.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on July 22 it became known that the administration of the pre-trial detention center in Almaty, where Mansur Movlaev is awaiting a decision on his extradition case, placed him in solitary confinement.

The court in Kazakhstan extended Mansur Movlaev's extradition arrest for five months – until January 13, 2027, reported human rights activist Maxim Rudnev.

"According to Kazakh laws, the extension of arrest is provided only for organizing transportation or for considering a complaint about extradition. So, in essence, there are currently no legal grounds for extending the arrest," he wrote on July 14 in his Telegram channel.

The court session on the extension of the arrest took place without Movlaev and his lawyers, Rudnev added. "It should be noted that this situation is still more favorable than the extradition of Mansur to Russia. We still have the opportunity to help Mansur," the human rights activist noted.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that on June 14, Mansur Movlaev complained about violations of his rights in the pre-trial detention center. According to him, one of the staff members of the isolation facility provoked him, exerted psychological pressure, made insults and threats, and also touched on issues of Movlaev's nationality.

Recall that Mansur Movlaev was detained by security forces in Chechnya in 2022 and held in an illegal prison. He escaped from there in January 2023 and made it to Kyrgyzstan. In August 2023, security forces in Kyrgyzstan detained Movlaev, who was wanted in Russia on charges of financing extremism. The court in Bishkek sentenced Movlaev to six months in a penal colony and subsequent deportation from the country. On November 20, 2023, Movlaev was released and left Kyrgyzstan on his own to avoid being sent back home.

In May 2025, Movlaev was detained in Kazakhstan and placed under extradition arrest; the Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan ruled to extradite him to Russian security forces. In February, the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan suspended the execution of the decision to extradite Movlaev until his asylum petition is finally considered.
