The Russian was convicted in Stavropol for collaborating with Ukrainian intelligence.

The Stavropol Regional Court found a 34-year-old Russian citizen guilty of treason and sentenced him to 18 years in prison.

The article on treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), which was charged against the defendant K., provides for a prison term of 12 to 20 years.

According to the prosecution's version, in 2025, the man was on the territory of Ukraine and agreed to confidential cooperation with local special services. His task was to organize sabotage against critical and military infrastructure in Russia. Arriving with the assignment in the Stavropol Territory, he was detained by law enforcement, the court's press service reported.

According to the prosecution, the defendant was recruited in Kyiv, and the motive for his cooperation with Ukrainian intelligence was "discontent with the current government" and disagreement with the military operation. In court, the man admitted his guilt, the agency's message states.

The court sentenced the accused to 18 years in a strict regime colony with a two-year restriction of freedom. The case was considered in a closed session, and the name of the defendant has not been disclosed in official reports or in the court registry. The "Caucasian Knot" currently has no comments from the convicted person or his lawyer regarding plans to appeal the verdict.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the FSB reported on July 4 about the detention of a resident of Anapa, who, according to security officials, was gathering information at the request of Ukrainian special services. In a video released by the security forces, an acquaintance identified Maxim Ovchinnikov, who had been searched for several months by relatives after "carousel arrests."

At the end of March, Maxim Ovchinnikov's mother from Anapa complained that since February she had been unable to find out her son's whereabouts, who was detained by security forces in January. On April 17, she appealed to the director of the FSB of Russia, Alexander Bortnikov, demanding to inform her where her son was. Only at the end of May did it become known that he was being held in SIZO-1 in the city of Krasnodar.
