46 Azerbaijani families returned to the Jebrail district.

In the village of Shyukyrbeyli, 223 members of Azerbaijani families who left the Jebrail district during the Karabakh conflict returned today.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on June 20, 20 families (89 people) of former internally displaced persons returned to the village of Shyukyrbeyli (Shyukyrbeyli).

Members of 46 families (223 people) of former internally displaced persons returned to the village of Shyukyrbeyli in the Jebrail district, the APA agency reported today.

These families had previously been temporarily settled in various regions of Azerbaijan – mainly in administrative buildings, dormitories, and sanatoriums, Trend.az noted today.

It is worth noting that earlier, internally displaced persons living in a dormitory of a lyceum in Baku complained about living conditions. More than 30 families from the Zangilan and Jebrail districts were settled in the building. The "Caucasian Knot" published a photo report by Aziz Karimov titled "Dormitory for internally displaced persons from the conflict zone in Karabakh in Baku".

The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that Azerbaijani residents who returned to Karabakh told a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" that they are settling in and finding work. Despite ongoing issues with employment and infrastructure, the displaced persons note an improvement in living conditions.

In November 2023, Azerbaijani authorities announced plans to return 34,500 families (140,000 people) to the former conflict zone in Karabakh by the end of 2026. The pace of resettlement is hindered by mine danger, lack of jobs, and unresolved land use issues.

On September 19-20, 2023, Azerbaijan conducted large-scale military operations and took control of the territory of Karabakh, after which a mass exodus of the Armenian population began. By October 7, 2023, 100,632 internally displaced persons from Karabakh had arrived in Armenia, and by September 2024, only 14 Armenians remained in the region.
