The authorities' decision to selectively raise salaries has caused discontent among Dagestani educators.

The authorities of Dagestan decided to introduce incentive payments for teachers of mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, and biology starting in 2027. Other educators in the republic, commenting on this decision on social media, demanded salary increases for all teachers regardless of the subject taught.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", educators in Dagestan regularly complain about low salaries and issues with their payment. In 2024, schools in Makhachkala faced mass teacher resignations. In their statements, they cited low salaries. Teachers complained about rising prices and the lack of municipal benefits that would somewhat compensate for their low earnings. On April 24, 2025, Dagestani educators reported that due to low salaries they are forced to work one and a half to two jobs.

To enhance the prestige of the teaching profession, starting in 2027, teachers of mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, and biology will receive a monthly payment of 10% of their salary.

There are nearly 9,700 teachers of mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, and biology in the republic. There is a shortage of educators in these fields, the administration of the head of Dagestan reported on June 30 via its Telegram channel.

A post stating that the authorities of Dagestan raised salaries for some teachers was published on June 30 by the Instagram* public page dagestan_like, which has about 87,000 followers. As of 09:00 MSK on July 1, this post received 104 likes and 57 comments.

"All teachers need a salary increase," emphasized nariman41038. "And are the other school staff not needed? This is discrimination," believes user mir__05_67.

"Are the others not teachers?" asked saif_nami. "Are there no other subjects? When will this circus in the government end?" asked user turhga05.

"And what about the other teachers? What kind of injustice is this, how can this be? It's hard for everyone to raise, why divide by specific subjects? The others also work hard," complained ustarbekova.patimat.

"I am very happy. But what about the teachers of the Russian language and literature, who prepare children for the Unified State Exam and the Basic State Exam every year? Why weren't their salaries raised? Why this attitude towards teachers?" questioned seranatkazimagomed.

"The biggest burden is on primary school teachers," wrote bariyat_tagirova66.

"10% of the salary, not even of the wage – that's little," noted user kurbanovasalihat68.

"People, 10% is only 2,300. Minus tax. Don't be outraged. This is first. Secondly, they will only be added in schools, we in colleges can't even dream of them," wrote user aizazel.

Recall that on April 22, 2025, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the authorized representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus Federal District, Yuri Chaika, dedicated to problematic issues in the field of education, as reported on the representative's website. The meeting noted that the acute problem in the regions is the shortage of teaching staff. Without taking into account part-time work, the real shortage of personnel in Dagestan is over 1,500 people. One of the main reasons for the shortage of educators remains their low salary level, believes Chaika.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in January 2023, teachers from the school in the village of Utsmiurt in the Babayurt district reported the absence of incentive payments and delays in salary. This situation is also observed in other districts of the republic, they noted.

On December 7, 2023, it became known that teachers from the Gumbet, Gunib, Novolak, and Khasavyurt districts, as well as Makhachkala, complained that they had not received their salary for November. The head of the Dagestan government intervened in the situation, instructing local authorities to settle the salary debt to educators.
