Karapetyan's associate, Artur Avanesyan, has been placed under house arrest.

The Anti-Corruption Court has changed the pretrial detention measure for Artur Avanesyan, a member of the Strong Armenia bloc, placing him under house arrest. He is also prohibited from leaving the country.

As reported by Kavkazsky Knot, on April 27, the court ordered Artur Avanesyan, an associate of Strong Armenia party leader Samvel Karapetyan and a participant in the Karabakh conflict, to be held in pretrial detention for two months. "Avanesyan is on a hunger strike against political persecution in Armenia," Areg Hovsepyan, a representative of Strong Armenia, reported on Facebook* on April 29. On May 4, Artur Avanesyan ended his hunger strike following Karapetyan's call.

The Anti-Corruption Court released Artur Avanesyan, also known as "Kandaz," from custody. The prosecutor insisted on extending Avanesyan's pretrial detention, but Judge Sarkis Dadoyan denied the motion, Armlife reported.

The prosecution justified its motion to extend Avanesyan's pretrial detention by citing Avanesyan's potential to hinder the investigation. Defense attorney Roman Yeritsyan countered that the preliminary investigation had been completed and the risks cited by the prosecutor had been neutralized.

Ultimately, the Anti-Corruption Court changed Avanesyan's pretrial detention to house arrest and a travel ban, News.am reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that on June 22, protesters in Yerevan denied any connection between the aid they received and the activities of "Strong Armenia." Gevorg Khamoyan, charged with voter bribery, had been providing charitable assistance to Karabakh displaced persons for several years. These people do not have Armenian citizenship, and Khamoyan himself was not yet a supporter of any party, according to participants in the Yerevan protest.
