The state of the coastline in Tuapse has alarmed an ecologist.

Most of the non-beach areas in the Tuapse District remain contaminated with oil products. Volunteers, after receiving permission from the authorities, intend to resume cleanups of the area from Tuapse to Agoy, said ecologist Evgeny Vitishko.

As "Caucasian Knot" reported, the scale of pollution on the beaches in Tuapse is significant, and the authorities are not doing enough, despite planning a full resort season. Volunteers receive government support only at a few beaches; some beaches have no cleanup crews or equipment, ecologist Evgeny Vitishko noted in May. Some volunteers said they were waiting for permission to do the work.

Most of the beaches have been cleared of oil spills, but the situation outside of them remains dire, said Evgeny Vitishko, a member of the Human Rights Council under the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory and an ecologist.

"Most of the beaches have formally reopened, including the Central City Beach. They received permits and beach passports. But most of the areas outside the beaches are still contaminated with oil products, and quite seriously so," the Yasno project quotes him as saying.

"Rosprirodnadzor has prohibited us from using surfactants. "Therefore, I don't yet understand what kind of sorbents we will use for this, because we won't be able to scrub the oil products off the rocks there by hand," said Evgeny Vitishko.

Vitishko published photographs of the contamination on his Telegram channel. In particular, he posted photos and videos of the road to Primorye Beach, which show black contamination on the curb and walls.

In another message from June 18, he posted photographs of the coastline between Tuapse and Agoy. Not only are there a significant number of oil-soaked rocks visible on the beach, but also a large amount of debris, piles of oil recovery booms, and bags of contaminated soil that haven't been removed.
