Rospotrebnadzor reported that water samples in Makhachkala did not meet hygiene standards.

Following complaints from Makhachkala residents, the republic's office of Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) took water samples at five locations where water is supplied from Lake Vuzovskoye. All samples showed that the water did not meet hygienic standards for taste, odor, and turbidity.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," last September Rospotrebnadzor reported on the results of a water quality inspection in Dagestan. According to him, almost a third of the samples did not meet standards, and an outbreak of intestinal infection was prevented in Makhachkala.

Rospotrebnadzor conducted laboratory tests of tap water at five addresses located in the water supply area from Lake Vuzovskoye in Makhachkala, RIA Dagestan reported on June 14.

The tests revealed that the water did not meet hygiene standards for taste, odor, and turbidity. This is due, in particular, to the spread of algae in the reservoir. It was established that the utility company was not implementing the necessary technological measures to purify the lake's water, and warnings and orders to correct the violations were sent to it. The organization is obligated to take action to prevent algal blooms in reservoirs and ensure high-quality water filtration and supply to residents.

In 2024, Rospotrebnadzor reported complaints from Makhachkala residents about their tap water smelling bad. The complaints came from residents of streets supplied with tap water from Lake Vuzovskoye. According to the agency, this problem occurs annually in early summer and is associated with lake algal blooms and siltation, while existing treatment facilities are ineffective in purifying the water.
