23 Azerbaijani citizens have been repatriated from Syria.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported the repatriation of seven women and 16 children from Syria.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, Azerbaijan periodically organizes the return of its citizens from camps in Syria and Iraq. In June 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on the repatriation of 13 Azerbaijani citizens who were victims of the armed conflict in Syria.

Twenty-three Azerbaijani citizens were repatriated from Syria – seven women and 16 children, Oxu.az reported on June 13, citing the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.

According to the ministry, the repatriated citizens were placed in a social service facility and provided with primary medical and social-psychological assistance. After completing the rehabilitation process, they will be sent home.

In total, the department notes, more than 600 people have been repatriated to Azerbaijan in recent years.

The "Caucasian Knot" also reported that in December 2024, Baku expressed support for the transitional government of Syria, formed after armed opposition fighters entered Damascus and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fled the country for Moscow. In February, the Azerbaijani embassy resumed operations in Damascus after a 12-year hiatus.
