Civil Contract remains the leader after 16% of the ballots have been counted.

After counting 16.05% of the ballots in the Armenian parliamentary elections, the ruling Civil Contract party remains in the lead, although its results have begun to decline.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, voting in the parliamentary elections took place in Armenia on June 7. Observers reported violations, including the filling out of a ballot by a voter's relative and violations of voting secrecy. After processing 1.33 percent of the ballots, the ruling Civil Contract party was in the lead.

The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia published the election results from 523 polling stations, having processed 16.05% of the ballots, News.am reported today.

The ruling Civil Contract party remains in the lead, but its results have begun to decline - now it has received 119,958 votes, or 51.16%.

The "Strong Armenia" bloc of parties came in second with 23.37% (54,549 votes), the "Armenia" bloc of parties came in third with 9.68% (22,706 votes), and the "Prosperous Armenia" party came in fourth with 4.13% (9,688 votes). Finally, the "Wings of Unity" party came in fifth with 2.29% (5,360 votes).

Members of the ruling Civil Contract party are committing widespread violations at polling stations, while the Central Election Commission and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia demonstrate inaction, the opposition reported. Observers reported video recording at polling stations, attempts to influence the vote, and deceased individuals on the voter lists. Difficulties were also created in allowing unregistered voters to participate in the vote. Before the polling stations closed, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported 29 violations, including attempts at duplicate voting, and the ombudsman received 59 complaints. The high turnout in the parliamentary elections in Armenia was a consequence of public mobilization and the perception of voting as a choice for the country's future, according to political scientists interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot."

According to polls conducted before election day, the ruling Civil Contract party maintains its lead, but the overall rating of the opposition is higher, according to the Caucasian Knot report "Pre-election ratings of Armenian parties".
