An Armenian man committed suicide after being arrested for damaging an election poster.

Armen Hovhannisyan was detained for tearing down an election poster and was then sent to the Nubarashen Psychiatric Hospital, where he committed suicide.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," elections to the National Assembly of Armenia will be held on June 7. According to analysts, the parties of Karapetyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and former President Robert Kocharyan will be key competitors in the elections.

Armenian resident Armen Hovhannisyan was detained for tearing down an election poster, leading to criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 211 of the Criminal Code (coercion to campaign or to refuse to campaign, or otherwise obstructing campaigning), News.am reported on May 16.

Hovhannisyan was initially held in custody, but no charges were brought against him. He was then transferred to the Nubarashen Psychiatric Hospital, as security forces noticed his mentally unstable behavior, writes Factor.am.

It was later reported that Hovhannisyan committed suicide in the psychiatric hospital.
