An Abkhaz official was hospitalized after an attack.

Abkhazia's Deputy Chief of Staff, Kristian Bzhania, suffered a gunshot wound and was hospitalized. The Ministry of Internal Affairs attributed the incident to a "domestic dispute."

Journalists learned of the attack on the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Cabinet of Ministers of Abkhazia during the afternoon of May 14, but the information was not officially confirmed until the evening.

Initial reports claimed the incident occurred in Sukhumi. "Kristian Bzhania suffered a gunshot wound. He was taken to the republican hospital," the Aiashara news agency reported.

It was later reported that the official was wounded in the village of Tamysh. "Kristian Bzhania is in the Agudzera hospital," Gazeta.abh reported.

According to the Abkhazian Ministry of Health, the victim is in stable condition and his life is not in danger, the agency later reported.

The Abkhazian Ministry of Internal Affairs released an official statement this evening about the incident in which Kristian Bzhania sustained a gunshot wound. According to police, on the night of May 14, Kristian Bzhania had a "domestic dispute" with a certain Vladislav Bzhania, who shot at the government staff member. Vladislav Bzhania was taken to the police station, the agency's official Telegram channel reported.

"According to sources, Kristian Bzhania was shot in Aslan Bzhania's ancestral village, and the conflict occurred between Kristian and Aslan Bzhania's inner circle," the novosti_abkhazia Instagram account* reports.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that on February 21, Essou Kakalia, a member of the supreme council of the opposition public organization "Aidgylara," was shot and hospitalized. The next day, Alkhas Gurgulia, a member of the Public Chamber of Abkhazia and one of three suspects in the assassination attempt on Kakalia, was detained. On February 27, a court sentenced him to a month of pretrial detention.

Essou Kakaliawas the head of the coordination headquarters for a way out of the political crisis during the period when protesters were seeking the resignation of President Aslan Bzhania. The opposition claimed that the assassination attempt on Kakalia was prompted by criticism of the head of the presidential administration, Beslan Eshba. At the meeting, opposition members accused Beslan Eshba of exacerbating political tensions in Abkhazia and called on him to resign.
