Two children were hospitalized after a school shooting in Kuban.

A ninth-grader was detained in the Gulkevichi District after firing an air gun at a school. Two students were injured and hospitalized.

The incident occurred in the Gulkevichi District, Kuban Governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported today on his Telegram channel.

"The ninth-grader brought an air gun into the school building and injured two students. The children are promptly receiving all necessary medical care at the hospital; doctors are currently assessing the victims' condition as satisfactory," he wrote.

Authorities plan to "investigate how the high school student was able to bring the weapon," the official noted. "We will conduct an investigation into the school's management and security company. A commission from the Ministry of Education has already been sent to the municipality," the publication states.

The schoolboy who fired the gun has been detained, a spokesperson for the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs press service reported.

"This morning, the Gulkevichsky District Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia received a report of a shooting at Comprehensive School No. 1. According to preliminary information, a ninth-grade student fired several shots from an object similar in design to a pistol and fled the scene. Two minors are known to have been injured by his actions," Interfax quotes him as saying.

"Caucasian Knot" wrote about a similar incident in Anapa on February 11. That day, a student from an industrial technical school opened fire near the educational institution. As a result, a technical school security guard who prevented the attacker from entering the building was killed. A technical school employee and a student were also injured.

The court remanded in custody the shooter and the young man who incited him to commit the crime. The Investigative Committee also opened a criminal case against a 64-year-old man for failing to secure his firearm, which was seized by a 17-year-old student.
