Participants in a march in Tbilisi demanded medical treatment for children.

A march in support of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy took place in Tbilisi. Participants headed to the government administration building, where parents of the affected children have spent 20 nights demanding modern treatment.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," participants in the rally outside the Georgian parliament support the demands of parents seeking the purchase of modern medication for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

"Give the children medicine" - under this slogan, a march in support of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy is taking place from the Rustaveli metro station to the government administration building. The children's parents and their supporters are participating, InterPressNews reports.

The marchers headed to the government administration building with red balloons and banners with various messages. According to them, with this latest protest, they will once again try to convey to the authorities that children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy need help and that providing them with the appropriate medication is vital.

For twenty days now, parents of patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy have been holding a continuous protest demanding medication, staying outside the government building overnight.

Last night, police prevented the protesting parents who remained outside the government building from bringing folding chairs into the park, explaining that Photographer Levan Zazadze wrote on his Facebook page* that there are already benches there and no need for additional furniture.

Protesting parents are appealing a court decision that refused to overturn the Interior Ministry's ban on setting up tents near the government building. The Interior Ministry did not allow them to be set up, claiming they could interfere with the work of organizations, even though the nearest building is approximately 70 meters away. The parents note that women and children are forced to sleep outdoors in bad weather, which is dangerous to their health. They consider the Interior Ministry and court decisions illegal and will seek to overturn them in the appellate court, Tbilisi Life reports.

Georgia's fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, handed over an official letter to EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Gerchinsky.

In the letter, Zurabishvili asks the EU ambassador to help find funding opportunities and other support mechanisms for patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Publika reports.
