A serviceman in Nalchik was convicted of two counts of evading military service.

The court sentenced Salman Ozdoyev to six years in prison for first failing to report to his unit at the appointed time and then leaving his duty station without permission.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," on September 4, 2022, Parts 2.1, 3.1, and 5 of Article 337, concerning unauthorized leaving of a unit or duty station during mobilization, were amended to the Russian Criminal Code. The amendments provide for imprisonment for up to 10 years. Tighter legislation following the announcement of mobilization led to harsher sentences for absence from a military unit and desertion.

A Vladikavkaz resident held a picket to demand that the sentence for leaving her son's unit, who was deemed fit for service despite a spinal injury sustained at the training ground, be overturned. Human rights activists have called the practice of returning soldiers who have not fully recovered systematic.

A serviceman named Ozdoyev was found guilty of two counts of absence from duty for more than a month during mobilization, 1 the Nalchik Garrison Military Court reported on its VKontakte page.

According to the court, the serviceman "without good reason" failed to report for duty at his military unit's location on May 7, 2024, at the appointed time, and on February 6, 2025, he left his duty station without permission. In both cases, he went home and remained there until August 17, 2024, in the first case, and until March 11, 2026, in the second.

"In the first case, Ozdoyev voluntarily reported to the temporary deployment point of the military unit, and in the second case, he voluntarily reported to the military unit in the village of Troitskaya in Ingushetia," the statement reads.

In court, Ozdoyev fully admitted his guilt. He was sentenced to six years in prison for all three crimes. He will serve his sentence in a general regime penal colony.

The court's press service did not provide the name of the convicted person. According to the criminal case file on the court's website, the convicted person is Salman Ozdoyev. The case was submitted to the court for consideration on April 26, and Judge Pyatov announced the verdict on May 4.
