Two North Caucasus republics are among the regions with the highest road traffic fatality rates.

Karachay-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria are among the regions of Russia where the road accident mortality rate exceeds the national average.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", according to data for the first half of 2024, Chechnya became the leader in the rating for the lowest accident rate with casualties.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation published the rating data on the road accident mortality rate for the first three months of this year, RIA Novosti reported on May 4 "News."

According to the department, 2,264 people died in road accidents in the country in just three months, representing a fatality rate of 1.55 per 100,000 people.

Karachay-Cherkessia is among the regions with the highest number of road accident fatalities. The republic's fatality rate is 3.62. Another North Caucasus republic with the highest traffic fatality rate is Kabardino-Balkaria, where the fatality rate is 2.97.

Kalmykia and Chechnya are among the regions with the lowest traffic fatalities.

As a reminder, Chechnya practices a selective approach to punishment for those responsible for traffic accidents. Officials and their relatives remain unpunished in road accidents, while ordinary residents of Chechnya can be held responsible for the accident as a whole family, analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" noted in May.
