Two slopes at a ski resort in Kabardino-Balkaria are closed today due to avalanche danger.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," on March 10, one of the five cable cars at the Elbrus resort was shut down due to strong winds. On the same day, it resumed operations.

Today, the Garabashi-Mir and Bashtala-Chiran ski slopes at Elbrus are closed to skiing due to avalanche danger, the resort administration reported on its Telegram channel.

The Mir-Krugozor and Krugozor-Azau slopes, as well as the Azau-Krugozor, Krugozor-Mir, Mir-Garabashi, and Bashtala-Chiran cable cars, are open from 9:00 a.m. Moscow time, the Elbrus administration noted.

According to the Caucasian Knot weather service, today in Tyrnyauz (the administrative center of the Elbrus district) there is clear weather with no precipitation. Similar weather is expected on the night of April 27. The weather service is a partnership between the "Caucasian Knot" and Gismeteo. The service allows you to correct meteorological data for a more accurate forecast. The service is also available in a light version and in Caucasian Knot apps for Android and AndroidGO.

As a reminder, the official opening of the ski season on Elbrus took place on December 6, 2025. To mark the opening, the resort launched a new ski area with two cable cars, and 5.2 kilometers of new trails were developed in the eastern sector.

After many countries closed their borders due to the coronavirus pandemic, Russian tourists turned more attention to resorts within the country, particularly in the North Caucasus. In 2025, according to authorities, two million tourists visited the resorts of Kabardino-Balkaria, tourist traffic increased by 13.7%.

It should be noted that in late March and early April, floods caused by heavy rains in the North Caucasus were among the most destructive in recent years, but in Kabardino-Balkaria the rains were light.
