Access to three mountain villages in Dagestan has been restored.

Workers cleared a road to three villages in the Tsumadinsky District, which was blocked after a rockfall.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" newspaper, 11 villages in Dagestan remained without transport connections on April 21. In the Tlyaratinsky District, transport connections remained cut off to the villages of Gvedysh, Gendukh, Kardib, Gindib, Khadiyal, and Tadiyal; in the Dakhadaevsky District, to the villages of Itsari and Dirbakmakhi; and in the Tsumadinsky District, to the villages of Santlada, Khvarshi, and Khonokh. Three villages in the Tsumadinsky District were blocked after a rockfall closed a section of the road leading from the Agvali-Shauri-Kidero road to the village of Khvarshi on the evening of April 20. Dozens of road sections in Dagestan were closed after floods, landslides, and, in mountainous areas, avalanches and snowstorms. On April 19, residents of 14 villages in Dagestan were left without transportation: six in the Dakhadaevsky District (Sur-Surbachi, Itsari, Khuduts, Ashty, Dirbakmakhi, and Kunki), six in the Tlyaratinsky District (Gvedysh, Gendukh, Kardib, Gindib, Khadiyal, and Tadiyal), and two in the Tsumadinsky District (Gadiri and Gachitli). By April 20, roads to two villages in the Tsumadinsky district had been cleared, but residents of four villages in the Tsuntinsky district were left without transport links, bringing the number of blocked villages to 16.

Transport links with the villages of Santlada, Khvarshi, and Khonokh were restored on the evening of April 21, Dagestanavtodor reported on its Telegram channel.

"In the Tsumadinsky district, on the road "Access from the Agvali-Shauri-Kidero road to the village of Khvarshi," at 8 km, vehicle access has been ensured using a temporary scheme. Work to clear the road to the full width of the roadway continues," the publication states.

As a reminder, from April 12 to 18, landslides destroyed 28 Houses in the Dakhadayevsky District were damaged, and another 127 were partially damaged. About 200 people were evacuated. "Of course, there's significant damage, and other villagers have suffered even more. We're helping each other as best we can. We're helping each other. It's too early to talk about compensation, but we hope there will be some payments," a resident of the village of Urkarakh told the "Caucasian Knot" on April 20.

Floods caused by heavy rains began in the North Caucasus in late March and have become some of the most destructive in recent years. Dagestan and Chechnya suffered the most from the natural disaster, according to the Caucasian Knot report "Spring Flooding in the North Caucasus - 2026".
