Protesters on Rustaveli Avenue supported the demands of parents of patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Participants in the protest on Rustaveli Avenue, marking the 510th day of continuous protests, supported parents' demands for medication for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The parents themselves decided to spend the second night in a row outside the government administration building.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," on April 20, the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of demonstrators who suffered at the hands of security forces in November and December 2024. That same day, parents of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy began a round-the-clock protest outside the government administration building.

Supporters of Georgia's European integration gathered today on the pedestrian section of Rustaveli Avenue near the parliament building for the 510th night in a row. At least 50 people participated in the rally with national flags, according to posts by photographer Mo Se and Georgian media* on Facebook.

Activists brought posters to Rustaveli Avenue with slogans against corruption, in defense of women's rights, and in defense of sick children, demanding adequate funds for their treatment. Meanwhile, parents of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy continued their rally outside the government administration building for a second night, Publika reports.

Georgia's ombudsman responded today to the actions of police officers, who prevented protesting parents from setting up tents in the square and bringing pillows to the park near the chancery. He called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs not to hinder citizens' right to peaceful protest.

“The Ombudsman emphasized that freedom of assembly includes the right to choose the form of protest, including the use of various objects and structures. The state is obliged to facilitate peaceful protests and show tolerance towards the chosen form of protest,” Tbilisi_life quotes the Public Defender of Georgia as saying.

Protesters in Georgia have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners since November 28, 2024. Security forces carried out violent dispersals of the protests, using tear gas and water cannons, and detained protesters.
