As "Caucasian Knot" reported, animal rights activists outside the Tbilisi administration building on April 4 demanded changes to the program for managing the stray animal population and the return of sterilized animals to their habitats. According to them, many animals taken to municipal shelters simply disappeared.

Animal rights activists held another rally near the Chancellery (Administration of the Government of Georgia) today, Publika reports.

Animal protection organizations and activists are demanding that the National Food Agency implement a comprehensive and humane sterilization campaign for stray animals, as well as the return of animals taken for sterilization to their original territory. Animal rights activists say that sterilization alone is not enough to completely solve the problem. According to them, one of the main reasons remains the uncontrolled reproduction of domestic animals and their abandonment on the streets.

Animal rights activists note that to solve the problem of stray animals, the following is necessary: ​​a sterilization/neutering program for stray animals according to humane standards; restrictions and controls on the uncontrolled reproduction of domestic animals (both purebred and mixed breeds); a ban and strict controls on the abandonment of animals on the street; social campaigns to raise awareness and encourage adoption (taking animals from the street); Increasing the availability of veterinary clinics and medical services.
