A Sochi resident has been accused of publishing extremist materials.

A Sochi resident who published a self-produced video on social media will stand trial on charges of inciting hatred and enmity with the use of violence.

The accused is a 23-year-old resident of the village of Baranovka in the Khostinsky District of Sochi. By the summer of 2025, he had already been charged with inciting hatred and enmity (Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).

According to the prosecution, in June 2025, the young man published a self-produced video of "extremist content" "on his social media channel." The publication, which was widely accessible, attracted the attention of officers from the Kuban FSB Directorate, according to a statement from the regional Investigative Committee.

The accused admitted guilt during the investigation, the agency noted. The Krasnodar Krai Prosecutor's Office, in turn, clarified that the video, which the young man himself recorded and edited, contained his "personal statements negatively assessing a certain nationality" and "propaganda of violence." A restraining order was imposed on him pending trial.

The criminal case has been sent to the Khostinsky District Court in Sochi. Under the extremism charge (Part 1 of Article 282 of the Russian Criminal Code), the defendant faces two to five years in prison or forced labor for one to four years.

The court's website records indicate that the case under this charge was submitted for consideration on April 7. The defendant's name is hidden from the case file.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," courts in southern Russia sentenced at least seven people to prison terms for social media posts between December and early April. The actual number of such sentences is significantly higher, as not all terrorism justification cases are included in public court files.
